Christian Apologetic, and Social Commentary in a world gone mad

Simply awesome...

Most of you either know someone, or are living through the massive blizzard that hit the US yesterday.   I have been up since 5:15 today shoveling snow… it is awesome.  This is a snow storm that is historic.  It will be on par with the 2002 Ice storm  (Another event that I will never forget).

All of that being said… there is a lesson that we all need to remember with this snow storm.  We as Christians are called to be servants first and foremost.  This means that we need to help and be of service to those that need it.  While this call is not specific to any natural or man-made event, events like this blizzard serve as a call for us to be servants to those around us.

There are a number of examples where Jesus served those around him.

In John 13:3-15 Jesus, after eating got up, wrapped a towel around himself and washed the feet of the Apostles.  This is an incredible act considering that this was God incarnate on earth.  If you look at John 13:12-15 you will see the specific call to serve.

“12When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them,  “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”

This is not the only verse that is explicit to being a servant.  Some other verses include 1 Peter 5:2-4, Philippians 2:3-8, 1 Peter 5:5-7, and John 3:30.

My personal favorite…

Mathew 20:25-28:  “25But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Our call is clear.  We must serve.  Even the Son of God came to serve, and we must do so as well.

Folks, as many of you are staying home today with the weather, take this time to help someone with their driveway.  Help someone shovel their sidewalk.  If you know

Ice Storm 2002 in Lawrence

someone without power, take them some warm food.  Shake their hand, and help them out.  On this day we can exemplify our Lord.

Keep in mind folks we do these things with the hope that someday we can share the Gospel with them.  Helping them out today…is not equivalent with sharing the Gospel.  It is simply opening the door to do so…
