Dino Dan the atheist

Okay, so my kids have started watching a show on Nick Jr. called Dino Dan.  This show is about a little boy who can see dinosaurs.  He tracks

Dino Dan the Atheist?

them and takes notes. The show prides itself on it’s “dino facts”.  These are the facts that they present on the show.  The show also talks about using the scientific method to solve problems.

My kids really enjoy this show.  They enjoy watching the dinosaur’s.  I have to admit…if I were a kid and this show was on…I would have watched it as well.  Okay, okay…I did watch it with them.

So as I am watching Dino Dan with my kids and I hear them talking about dinosaurs being millions of years old.  I hear this in passing and don’t think anything of it…until my daughter draws a dinosaur and tells me that it is millions of years old.  This poses a problem.  With that timeline, Dino Dan assumes the evolutionary model of Earth.

I had to explain to my daughter that the science used to say that the dinosaurs were millions of years old (carbon dating) was not very solid,  and that the dinosaurs are probably not millions of years old.  The reason that I have problems with this show is that it presents these things as (indisputable) facts.  Even the most hardened evolutionist will have to admit that the dating method for dinosaurs is rickety at best, but Dino Dan….does not.

Herein lies the problem.  We have discussed on a number of occasions how we are constantly bombarded by society with “facts” about how the earth was created and about how we were formed.  Evolutionists have for some time been pushing their agenda in the classroom, and recently (last 40-50 years) have been winning the battle for the classroom.  Evolution, while having absolutely no evidence to support it, has burrowed it’s way into the classroom for our kids to digest as truth.  Where evolution exists…God cannot exist.  Evolutionists (and atheists) know this.  While the battle rages for the classroom, shows like Dino Dan have free reign to spew  evolutionary thought without any kind of information about creation in the show.  So your kids get the evolution viewpoint without the creation view point at the ages of 3 – 8…when they are most impressionable.

Shows like Dino Dan wrap evolution up into a nice little present that your kids will easily digest.  So that by the time they are 10 they have completely bought into the idea that earth is millions of years old.  Teaching a younger earth to them in Sunday School or at home then becomes a challenge, and at a very young age kids are faced with their first major contradiction.  Dino Dan displays the effort that atheists will go through to indoctrinate our kids at such a young age.

As parents we should all be aware of what our kids are watching.  Fortunately, I happened to watch a few episodes with my kids.  This is indicative of the challenges that we face going forward.  The subtle attempts to indoctrinate our kids with a doctrine that deny’s the existence of God and his role in creation.  The older our kids get the better they are to use their own discernment skills.  At the ages of 3-8 their discernment skills are less developed.  This means that we have to be their discernment and filter.  Our protection now expands beyond regular TV now to the cartoons that they watch on channels like Nick Jr.  Which is unfortunate.

I definitely agree with your assertion that the agenda on many kids’ shows today is one of secular humanism and to assault the Bible. Personally, I’m an “old earth” guy where the days in Genesis were not literal days but rather epochs of time. Support for this comes in various old testament passages where a day to God is like a thousand years to us. The phrase “a thousand years” in Hebrew was used to denote large spans of time and not to be interpreted literally as a true “one thousand years”. This doesn’t mean that God was limited in being able to create in 6 literal days…He certainly could and that very well may be the way it happened but I do believe that the “old earth” theory holds true to modern science and removes the apparent contradiction. Bottom line: it’s not an essential in Christianity and obliterates a common criticism of Scripture at the same time. I tend to want to get to the meat and potatoes of the matter: salvation. If I can remove the barriers of skepticism as quickly as possible and get to this deeper, essential truth, all the better!

    • Robert Eshleman May 28, 2011 at 3:37 pm

I understand the old earth approach. But a quick question…does your belief in old earth imply belief in evolution as well?

      • Jason May 28, 2011 at 6:51 pm

        Nope…zero evolution…period.

      • Robert Eshleman May 28, 2011 at 9:49 pm

You da man…you and your creepy avatar.

      • Richard June 19, 2011 at 3:30 pm

i believe in evolution and creation i think their the same in one and the fact that the person above doesnt think dinosaurs are millions of years old is crazy just cuz he let creation theory get in the way which it is a theory cuz it cant be proven with out a doubt. I think that the shows is very educational when it comes to dinosaurs and my son enjoys it very much. The fact anyone calling anyone atheist is offensive when the person didnt do anything to deserve it. It show what true Christian we have in this world when they down anyone that doesnt meet their expections of the bible like it says only god can judge me so why are u casting a stone

      • Kevin Barnes June 21, 2011 at 8:44 am

        Richard,

We recognize that there are people who are Christian that believe in evolution. What Robert is trying to say is that it is inconsitant to believe in the inerrancy of the Bible and then also believe in Darwinian evolutionary theory. Robert has also pointed out in the past that it seems inconsistant to trust the Bible on how one can be in a right relationship with God (and thus go to heaven), but not trust it in matters of history.

You say that you believe in both evolution and biblical creation, how do you reconcile these two very different theories of the earth’s origins?

        Kevin

I found your website searching for background info on this subliminal brainwashing from Creation “science”. I heard my atheist kids laughing at the absurdity of the show and went in to see what was up. “Don’t these idiots know dinosaurs were extinct from a collision with an asteroid or comet millions and millions of years before the tiny mammal survivors of the mass extinction had evolved into apes and humans??”, my 10-year-old Knex mechanical engineer asked from behind his latest death defying roller coaster.
My atheist kids easily identified the absurdity of this fantasy show trying to implant the creationist delusion that dinos and humans knew each other in the 6000-year-old fantasy Earth. To teach them this absurdity is to make them look stupid, the rest of their lives.

Dear Rob (may i call you rob?),
How can you not believe in evolution? It is readily apparent in our daily lives. The early bird gets the worn. The bacteria become resistant to antibiotics. The dogs are becoming “labradoodles”. Plants are cultivated. Animals are raised. Survival of the fittest is occurring at all times.

If you are to say species of living animals, plants, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa are not changing; do you also say that iron will never rust? These are natural processes.

How can you not believe a God great enough to create, could not have created via evolution, could not have made dinosaurs millions of years ago?

If you are to tell me to follow a STRICT interpretation of the bible. Then we can have a whole different conversation.

    Thanks for your time,
    tyler

    • Robert Eshleman May 28, 2011 at 3:33 pm

      Tyler thanks for coming by.

Rob is fine, not preferred but it is better than some names I have been called.

It is easy to not believe in macro evolution, because there is no evidence to support it. The evolution you describe is micro evolution, and it is readily appearant. The difference between the two is that the bacteria you describe, is still bacteria not a new animal. The labradoodles are still dogs, plants are still plants, and even survival of the fittest is still within the same species of animal. However, there is no evidence of macro evolution, when the bacteria you describe has grown into dinosaurs/apes/humans.

I do believe that God is powerful enough to create. He could have created by evolution, and will grant that the Bible is not specific on the account of creation of Adam other than to say that he was created from the dust. However, those who believe in evolutionary creation have to account for the creation of Eve from Adam’s rib, which is explicit. Evolution has no account of woman being created specifically separate from man. Evolution would run specifically contrary to that notion as woman would have had to have been created by chance…just as man was. This is why I say that evolution and the Bible run at odds with one another. I would ask that you review this post I wrote that covers the major evidence for macro evolution. It exposes the lie that macro evolution (ape to man) has no evidence to support it. It is cited so that you can see where I get my information.

      MISSING LINK FOUND!

I do believe in interpreting the Bible appropriately. This means that there are times where the author wrote and spoke allegorical, and times where a strict interpretation is needed. I do believe the Bible (original transcripts) is without error. So when it says that Eve was created from the rib of man…I believe it. So we can have that conversation.

Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to our conversation.

      • Mark Spring June 18, 2012 at 3:42 pm

Isn’t man being created from dust an excellent example of macro evolution? If something can be created from nothing, why can’t something be created from something else? A creature slowly adapting into another creature over thousands (or millions) of years seems a lot more feasible than a rib immediately turning into a woman.

      • Robert Eshleman June 19, 2012 at 6:44 am

        Mark,

Creation is not the same thing as evolution. For instance, I can create a cake from basic ingredients, but that doesn’t mean that it evolved into a cake from an egg.

I am not sure how you can think that a creature evolving over millions of years is more feasible than creation. The mathematical probability of that taking place is 0 as the odds of that evolution is greater than 10 to the 50th power. Besides, there are no transitional forms alive today. There are no neanderthals or transitional forms of monkey human hybrids. Surely the same survival and needs for evolution exist for monkeys now as they did when they originally evolved. If evolution were a scientific process then the process must be repeated, and it is not.

There is no point trying to explain facts to closed minded people. Sometimes faith gets in the way of vision.

      • BC July 28, 2014 at 12:38 pm

Lol……..the most factual statement here thus far. Thank you for your words. Now you ALL should move on and live the lives you have before whatever happens happens. In the end…..we will all find out and until then, be the best you that one can be and stop attempting to force your beliefs onto others.

  4. Darwin June 15, 2011 at 3:52 pm

God is fake, you are delusional. Let your kids watch a show about dinosaurs without your religious ******** You complain about evolution in kids shows and yet you probably poison your childrens minds every night before supper. With your meaningless prayers and thanking a deity for food, clothing, shelter that you paid for yourself. Wake the **** up, god is FAKE!

    • Robert Eshleman June 16, 2011 at 5:36 am

Not sure I can really comment on this. This adds nothing to the discourse that we have at this blog. But I wanted to post it anyway…perhaps there is discourse about why the person would post this?

  5. australicat June 17, 2011 at 5:40 am

“Evolution, while having absolutely no evidence to support it” … there is only evidence for evolution. You have no evidence to prove otherwise.

    • Robert Eshleman June 17, 2011 at 6:58 am

There is absolutely no evidence to support evolution. The fossil evidence that has been presented that supports evolution has been forged, misrepresented, or flat out lied about. Don’t take my word for it though. Look it up and see for your self.

      • I just want evidence. June 20, 2011 at 11:00 pm

And one account of evidence for creation?

      • Kevin Barnes June 21, 2011 at 8:23 am

        Ms Holt,

Would you like to discuss the Cosmological, Teleological or Moral evidences for God/Creation?

        Kevin

      • Mark Spring June 18, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Robert, have you actually studied evolution? I think you have been grossly misinformed and I hope you will seek out non-religious sources for further information.

      • Robert Eshleman June 19, 2012 at 6:45 am

I have studied evolution. Probably not at the same level as many scholars, but I have seen enough inconsistencies with the “scientific” evidence offered on behalf of evolution and I am not convinced.

      • denise December 5, 2016 at 4:53 am

i looked at this comment and immediately thought about the Nazis in america. They swear down that no where in the second world war was there a holocaust and that any evidence found is fake.

i believe that the big bang theroy is correct but it was by gods hands and not a freak accident

  7. sean July 15, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Dino dan is an atheist because they mention carbon dating ? Oh no! Its SCIENCE!! Everyone knows that science is dangerous to religion!
Why don’t you go to the doctor and get treated for your insanity.

Unfortunately you might be sane and just not real bright.

I’m very happy you aren’t raising my children.

  8. molly kins July 15, 2011 at 4:13 pm

When exactly do you thing that dinosaurs lived? Really, when? I am curious. Sorry, hardened evolutionists do not think that carbon dating of dinosaurs is “rickety” as you say. Show me some scientists that think carbon dating is off by 65 million plus years. I think that you should check out some real science. Start at the Lawrence Hall of Science maybe. Good luck. I think that you ahve a lot to learn. You should be excited about it. Life is beautiful.

    • Robert Eshleman July 19, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Hi Molly. Thanks for coming by. Take a read of this article. It is very well researched, cited, and is considered a scholarly source. This article shows the research that calls carbon dating rickety.

      http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/nab/does-c14-disprove-the-bible

I am not sure when Dinosaurs lived… If I had to venture a guess, I would say after creation…up to the point of the flood. Scientific evidence lends itself to that point.

      • molly kins July 23, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Actually, it appears to be a scientific article, but unfortunately, it is not accepted. Just because someone does research and includes citations does not mean it is well done. It is not well researched and only considered to be a scholarly source by you, answeringenesis.org, and other YEC supporters who ignore evidence of an old earth in every other field of science – especially geology. But you also ignore basic principles of cosmology, biology, chemistry, paleontology, linguistics, and on and on.

But my real question is: Why does belief in an old earth make someone (Dino Dan) an ATHIEST? That does not have any correlation. It does make a more exciting headline on your blog though. Thanks for your response.

      • Robert Eshleman July 24, 2011 at 8:03 am

I find it interesting that you would discredit it simply because who wrote it. If you read the article you would have seen that the logic was sound with enough evidence to call into question the “science” of carbon dating. The manner in which you discredit it would have to apply to any article that would have a conclusion, bias, or funding from any group that supported the ultimate conclusion. This (unfortunately) would apply to 90% + scientific articles that you would cite for evolutionary, or carbon dating.

My conclusion for Dino Dan is based on the “evidence” reported by the show. There is only theory to support the idea that the earth is millions and millions of years old. Any show, or anyone that states this to be hard core evidence is false. These actions are highly indicative of the atheism/evolution argument. Dino Dan lends itself to that notion.

      • joe December 28, 2015 at 3:44 pm

Robert, you and all of the creationists on this board are complete imbeciles. NO ONE DATES FOSSILS OF DINOS with carbon!!!!! There are many other tests that are indisputable like layers in the earth are like rings on a tree. Also magnetic pole reversal which happens somewhere in the neighborhood of 200k to 500k years..we know this because iron atoms in the surrounding soil or clay or rock point in the direction of the poles at that time and we can see this has happened millions of times. Stop pedaling bullshit. I certainly hope you’ve grown since 2011..if not, I feel sorry for your children if you have any.

  9. Pastor Michael July 18, 2011 at 9:26 pm

    Darwin,
As delusional as you may “think” I am, I am praying that God will make himself known to you in some way. May I ask a question, although it sounds like you have come to a final conclusion, if God DID exist, would you want to know and would you be open to His intervention in your life?

  10. Rachel September 17, 2011 at 3:47 pm

Seriously now, we all have free will right? So if you don’t want your children watching Dino Dan because you don’t believe in what he teaches then don’t let them watch it. If on the other hand you’re not a control freak and believe in letting your child believe in what they want let them watch Dino Dan. What you believe in is your choice and you are not right or wrong for believing said things. I will continue to let my son enjoy Dino Dan and make his own decisions when he’s actually old enough to even understand what evolution is. Dino Dan is a cartoon for little kids it has nothing to do with God.

    • Robert Eshleman September 30, 2011 at 10:38 am

Believe me…I don’t let them watch it. So if your child believed that you were a murderer… you would be okay with that? What if your child made the decision to begin smoking at the age of 7? Would you be okay with that decision? I understand that these examples are extreme, however it is the same thing. Based on your description here you allow your child to do whatever they want., I believe you are being a little disingenous.

  11. MarioM. February 23, 2012 at 10:12 am

K… I can’t belieave some people still belieave in and try to back the whole creationism thing. Lmao. Here’s the fact. There is NO god. I suggest that you bible thumpers look up and watch Penn & Teller’s Bull Shit episodes, Creationism, The Bible Fact or Fiction. And to Catholics (which I was baptized as) The Vatican. You can find the whole episodes on YouTube.

    • Tom May 29, 2012 at 8:13 pm

MarioM, I am curious as to what you believe in regards to the soul. Do you believe in the existence of the soul? If you do not then you ignore the obvious evidence that has been presented on so many levels. There are many documentaries and even shows on television as well as books documenting NDE (Near Death Experiences) and every case that I have read about or viewed has had the existence of a destination which encompassed “love and peace”…..There is a show called “I survived beyond and back” and one example was a scientist who came back after being dead fifteen minutes (brain damage is supposed to occur when the brain is deprived of oxygen for over two minutes) and he had been an agnostic before this experience and had even taught the scientific/physical theories of what happens to the brain after death and why people have NDE “dreams”….He has since completely turned away from these “theories” and recognizes the existence of God and an afterlife.
I could turn this post into a personal testimony but I won’t do that….Suffice it to say that God has been there for me in my life and performed miracles too numerous to mention but I totally absolutely believe in the existence of Him and I am often curious as to why he has blessed me with these miracles to enhance my faith while not doing so in some others lives to create theirs. I have had some people very close to me who are/were atheists and I love(d) these people and always prayed that some experience would happen in their life to enlighten them. I wish the same for you. God does exist. I am certain of it.

    • Issac June 6, 2012 at 2:37 pm

As an atheist myself I find appalling when other atheist say “there is no god” I don’t personally believe in god but I know I could be wrong. And the is no proof for or against “god”

  12. Robert Eshleman March 14, 2012 at 5:55 am

Mario…I have enjoyed Penn and Teller in the past, but I have a hard time believing they would be an authority on the creation of the universe or the Bible in general.

Mario, I am curious though, why do you believe there is no God?

    • Jax March 14, 2012 at 3:46 pm

Oh boy! This is why I can’t stand church going, god believing people. You think it’s your way or noway!! This is the problem withe world. Just think we have no peace in this world, because why?? god…. Everyone wants to fight over who is right? How will anyone ever know? We won’t! There is absolutely no evidence there is a god BUT there is evidence in evolution! And don’t comment back I could care less!

  13. Ivon May 5, 2012 at 9:09 pm

I know that you all believe in god and everything so do I. But can you honestly trust a book that has been rewritten so many times? And especially when the book was never even written by Jesus. Just saying

  14. An intelligent person May 7, 2012 at 2:57 pm

people like you are what’s wrong with the world today refusing to accept facts, people who think God and evolution can’t coexist are very ignorant, everyone knows that the world (and dinosaurs) are millions of years old, I do think dino dan is delusional and crazy I think we can all agree with that, but anyone who would believe he is an atheist and the rest of what you say, well as a Christian I will pray for you.

    Thank you

  15. Issac June 6, 2012 at 2:31 pm

“So your kids get the evolution viewpoint without the creation view point at the ages of 3 – 8…when they are most impressionable.” but it’s ok to get the creationist point of view but not any other. I find your reasoning ironic also I find it sad that you would send misinformation to your child by saying that we have a “young earth” without any proof other than your bible also carbonating isn’t the only way to check the age of the earth. There is a reason why creationism isn’t taught in school. Why do you even need the view point in our schools isn’t that what your church is for.

    • Robert Eshleman June 8, 2012 at 12:38 pm

You are right…there is a reason the creationism isn’t taught in school. It is for the simple reason that people have an utter disdain for God. That is it.

There is PLENTY of scientific and logical evidence that supports creation. The Second law of thermo dynamics (science) and the law of non-contradiction (Law) support Creation.

  16. Carson J. Rogers August 8, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Good thoughts. Been watching the show with my kids and been having some of the same thoughts. We’ll probably stop watching it from here on out.

  17. Dennis Kelley August 18, 2012 at 11:40 am

i read some of these comments by young earth, no evolution folks and i fear for the future of our nation. we are the mockery of the developed world, the punchline to jokes about how stupid Americans are. our children, if indoctrinated by fanatics, will be unable to engage the rest of the world on issues of science, technology, and industry. we will essentially ensure that our children will clean rooms and clear tables for foreign tourists to the US. sickening.

  18. Misty September 1, 2012 at 11:56 pm

I’m very weary of the show “Ni Hoa Kai Lan” AND “Dino Dan”! I definitely caught the subtle teachings of Godless evolution in D.D. But in N.H.K.L, they teach kids the CRAZIEST things!!! One song she sings is “When someone says they’re sorry, say it’s ok, so they don’t feel bad!” Well that’s nice and all, but if my son (2.5 years old) says it’s ok but doesn’t actually forgive that person out of fear of their emotions, he not only lied to them to comfort them, but now he is confused and is now repressing his own feelings. Another thing they teach on Nick Jr is “Everyone is special! Everyone is the same! We are all equal!” Well, that sounds awesome! BUT we aren’t. There are so many different kinds of people and scenarios on this earth that its absolutely illogical to say we are all the same, we’re not! Another odd/worldly teaching on Nick Jr. is “If someone is mad or sad, whether they are wrong or not, do whatever to make them happy.” THAT is called manipulation! I do NOT want my son to think that if he gets mad or upset, we will go out of our way to please him. IT’S CRAZY. I watch everything with my child and explain why it’s right OR wrong. You have to be careful with your kids, or random people will pump them full of random nonsense and illogical thinking!

  19. Brett June 28, 2014 at 4:48 am

It’s a kids program, for kids. Don’t like it? Your a adult you control the tv.

  20. Mike H November 26, 2014 at 9:13 am

I didn’t read all the post, so this may have been brought up already. Did it ever occur to the original author of the first post, that evolution may just be God creating the earth and everything else within it as well as in the universe. You limit God by suggesting that if it didn’t happen in what we as humans think of as instantaneously then it couldn’t be God at work. Many people who have had what is termed as a near death experience, where they are technically dead and then are brought back or come back to life on their own, say that when they were on the other side in Gods presence that time did not exist in that realm. In the bible Adam was created from dust by God, which wouldn’t contrast with what evolutionist believe that we came from. I wouldn’t agree with an evolutionist either to suggest that all of this happened without our creator or just by chance. That would be ridiculous. To summarize my point, if evolution took millions or billions of years, to our limited understanding as humans it seems an impossible amount of time for God to take to create anything. But in Gods realm a billion years is as an instant is to us, so maybe we can all just get along, which is what God really wants more than anything from what I can tell from reading the bible.

  21. Erick M April 17, 2015 at 10:41 am

Wow u church freaks are nothing but a bunch of paranoid thumper who belive an invisible man in the sky will punish u if ur child has any real knowledge of science. I’m amazed most of u freaks even have the Internet in ur compounds.

  22. el normo July 26, 2015 at 10:09 am

So just go out and live in the woods and divest yourself from the trappings of godless science: medicine, electronics, clean water, cars, etc.. Remember to make your own beer and wine because you really can’t drink dirty water.

  23. JB August 14, 2015 at 10:05 pm

Just curious: among the dozen of so-called experts who made the time to develop these so-called SCIENTIFIC comments in this blog, how many of you have a solid SCIENTIFIC background from a university (e.g., MSc, PhD), or at least, have spend several years digging into the SCIENTIFIC literature that helps develop critical thinking because it is based on SCIENTIFIC debates stemming from empirical data (i.e., the literature you find in academic libraries, not on fake scientific websites)?
My point is: Evolution is a SCIENTIFIC FACT, based on substantiated evidence from a variety of methodologies (not only C14) straddling different scientific disciplines. The fact is not debated among (real) scientists. The only debate stems from the mechanisms underlying evolution. Natural selection is arguably the most important mechanism, but other evolutionary processes have been proposed and they may also play a key role in explaining evolution (which is, again, an undisputed fact).
PLEASE, if you want to pretend to be scientists, at least get your sources from real scientific papers, not stupid websites and other conspiracy theories from the internet. If you keep conveying complete non-sense like these mentioned above by Robert, you can only fool naive/ignorant people. This is not only unproductive but also detrimental to them because the evidence is actually out there, and you prevent them from looking for it. Just take the time to attend a basic evolution class at the university, or read scientific papers and textbooks written by actual scholars (whose work has been replicated several times and peer-reviewed). Then, see if you change your mind. At least, this is science.
Faith is ok, but by definition, it has nothing to do with science and real facts.
Kids can grow up with both (although mine will only receive the latter from me, just because I can’t teach what I don’t believe in), but they are entitled to make an informed decision based on knowledge of what distinguish one from the other. Then, please let them decide by themselves.
Please watch this (I am not a big fan of Richard Dawkins, I prefer Stephen J. Gould’s view on evolution, but at least, the debate is interesting):

  24. joe December 28, 2015 at 3:45 pm

You creationists are pure fucking idiots. Grow up.

  25. Justin July 3, 2016 at 7:19 am

    Youre an idiot.

I believe in god but i do believe that other things could be true too because i believe not everything was written down or the transcripts found and all we know god could have ended the world once before or after even again after the flood. Noone knows everything from then but god and Jesus .and maybe who goes to heaven

Evolution does not disprove God. Perhaps, you’re the one who is deluded about what such a being would be. In fact, how can you even possibly begin to comprehend His actions and motives, all the factors and processes, when all you have are the results of the equation?

God does not exist in the physical. What we believe in is merely the Spirit and Hope of all that is good about humanity. Why you would bother yourself with worrying about something as trivial as a little-known kid’s show?
